Shelter information

about animal control :

Animal Control is responsible for ensuring that the community is safe from problematic animals and also to that the animals are safe from abusive owners. Animal Control ONLY handles domesticated animals such as dogs and cats.

Animal Control currently has 3 officers who are responsible for the servicing the entire county of Pulaski. They work on daily shifts with one on call Officer for Emergency calls during non- business hours. If there is an emergency such as a dog attack, animal control will respond to the scene and assist in removing the animal. Animal Control does not handle non-domesticated animals such as deer, raccoon, skunks or any other rodents or reptiles. A  qualified pest control business or in the cases of big game animals, a Kentucky State Game Warden should be contacted for such problems.

If you have an emergency involving an animal contact your local law enforcement agency or 911 first!

animal surrender:

There is a charge of $5.00 per animal to  (surrendered / drop off) an animal at the shelter.

recovering my pet:

  • If you do not have proof of rabies shots and the dog is old enough for rabies shots (4 months), it is $39.50.
  • If you do have proof of rabies shots or the dog is too young for rabies shots, the fee is $25.00.
We also charge $2.00 per day for each day the animal is at the shelter to help cover the animal upkeep.
  • The second time the dog is picked up we charge $50.00.
  • Each time the dog is picked up thereafter we charge $100.00.

can my dog be picked up ? :

  • Yes, any animal that is off of the owner’s property is subject to be picked up.
  • However, if it is wearing a rabies tag, we will contact the vet’s office to get the name and number of the owner so that we may contact you.

can i report a missing / lost dog ? :

  • We will look in the shelter for an animal matching that description when you call, but we will not keep a number on record.
  • We simply get too many calls in a day’s time to accurately keep up with all the lost animal calls.
  • Best practice is to visit the shelter to confirm if you pet is there. Bring a poster or picture with name and number so we can post it on our bulletin board.
  • We will be glad to place a poster with a picture of the animal on our bulletin board, and then refer to the bulletin board for possible matches when we bring a stray recovery into the shelter.
  • Also, if the animal has on any type of tag we will try to contact the owner.
  • We don’t want anyone to loose their lost stray and will do what we can to reconnect them with their owner, but their is a 5 day stray hold while waiting for the owner to come look for their dog. DON’T WAIT MORE THAN 5 DAYS before looking for your lost pet at the shelter.
